AVARC Amateur License Exams

Earn Your Technician Class License

Want to get your ham license but don’t know where to start?  The Acton Agua Dulce Amateur Radio Club (AADARC) conducts a Technician License class once a year that will prepare you to take and pass the FCC written test for your own Technician license.  The last class ended a in February.  You can visit the AADARC website for updates.

Also, the Ham Radio Crash Course has a license prep course on YouTube.

HamStudy App

Visit the HamStudy website to study and take practice exams online for free!  You can also schedule your online exam when you’re ready.

Are you ready to take the exam or upgrade your amateur radio license?  Follow the steps below and let AVARC help you with the exam process.  We have Volunteer Exam Coordinators (VECs) that are ready to assist you.

Step 1 - Register w/FCC

To protect your privacy, you MUST register a profile with the FCC BEFORE taking an examination so that you will have a FRN, (Federal Registration Number). If you already have an EXISTING license WITH an FRN, bring that number with you. Social Security numbers can no longer be accepted. Please review the instructional link and watch the video presentation below:

Step 2 - Find an Exam

All of our exams are listed on the Hamstudy test sessions website.  At the top of the HamStudy website navigate to “From VEC” button, click or tap “Choose” and select GLAARG from the list of VECs.

Step 3 - Take the Exam

Now that you’ve registered with the FCC and signed up for a test at HamStudy, all that’s left is to show up and take the test!  The FCC will require a $35 fee for new exams, and the organization administering the exam will charge a small fee, usually around $15.

When you arrive, be sure you have a photo ID and your FRN number (see Step 1.)  You may also bring a calculator.  It must be a stand-alone calculator since you will NOT be allowed to use the calculator on your mobile device.

If you’re upgrading your license class, please also bring your current license certificate.
