To protect your privacy, you MUST register a profile with the FCC BEFORE taking an examination so that you will have a FRN, (Federal Registration Number). If you already have an EXISTING license WITH an FRN, bring that number with you. Social Security numbers can no longer be accepted. Our former church venue for amateur exams is no longer available. In addition, the library has been increasingly unavailable. Anyone with venue suggestions is welcome to contact the Board to pass them along. Please read the following for other options.
General Information:
GLAARG test fee: $10.00
ARRL test fee: $15.00
We don't take walk-ins as occupancy may be limited, plus the fact we don't want VE's traveling to sessions where no applicants show up. Please visit: HAMSTUDY examination registration. and browse to one of our sessions to make a reservation. If you filter your selection by VEC, (GLAARG or ARRL), it will make them easier to find. Please use the HAMSTUDY platform rather than calling us direct to ensure a spot for you. Be sure to read the NOTES section prior to reserving. If no reservations are made by one day prior to the session date, then the session will be cancelled. If no applicants show up by 30 minutes past the scheduled exam times, the session will be vacated.
Please bring a photo ID, and for your ID security it is required to obtain, or bring your existing FCC FRN number to the session. This can be obtained at FCC CORES Registration. Existing licenses should have the FRN printed on them if not too old.
If needed, bring a stand-alone calculator, (smartphone calculator apps prohibited).
On the day prior to your exam, please check this web site for any changes to the date or time of the exam.

The GLAARG VEC and other VEC's are offering limited online testing. HAMSTUDY examination registration. These are by appointment only. Pick a date, then click the REGISTER button. You will receive further instructions and payment options for these online examinations. Check back to this site for continuing updates.
*** GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWNS and Filing Fees: The FCC will suspend all ULS processing during government shutdowns. The FCC now assesses a $35.00 filing fee for new licenses and renewals which began early 2022. After passing your examination the FCC will email you a link on which to make your payment. Upgrading your license class is still free however.
